Ernest Rutherford

Ernest Rutherford FRS
Born: 30 August 1871 Nelson, New Zealand
Died: 19 October 1937 Cambridge
Nobel prize for Chemistry 1908
created Baron Rutherford of Nelson 1931


He discovered and named alpha, beta and gamma rays and studied radioactive transformations. He disintegrated the hydrogennucleus using alpa particles from radium and thus was the first to efect the transmutation of an element.
