This plaque jointly commemmorates John Dalton and Sir Arthur Eddington, both of whom were associated with this school. Dalton was a teacher at the school from 1781 to 1793, the founder of atomic theory and the `father' of modern chemistry. There is anoter plaque to him installed by the Royal Society on the local church He and his brother were both colour blind and he first described this eye defect, now sometimes known as 'Daltonism'.
